The UTSC Annual General Meeting – More Than Just Minutes and Motions

It might not be the most thrilling event on the sailing calendar — no spinnakers, no capsizes, no tacking duels — but the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is how we keep the sails up and the social going.

The AGM is where we look back at the year, thank the volunteers who made it all happen, and look ahead to the next season. It’s about putting the "club" in sailing club — making sure we all have races to enter, safety boats on standby, and someone to pour the mulled wine when the water's too frozen to sail.

What Was on the Agenda This Year?

• Planning the 2026 Sailing Calendar
  Series races, Wednesday sessions, and of course the return of all the favourites — from the Merlin Open to the Relay Race.

• Social Events to Bridge the Off-Season
  Because winter’s a long time to go without seeing your sailing mates.
  Quiz nights, more happy hour evenings, social dinners and with a new house committee, more new events.

• A New Way to Celebrate the Club
  We’re proud to announce the launch of our very first UTSC Wall Calendar!
  Made up of members’ photos submitted throughout the year — beautiful, funny, action-packed and uniquely us. Printed on glossy A4 card and on sale now (limited stock, hand collection only).

Why It Matters

A good AGM means a good year ahead.
It’s how we ensure we have:

• Trained safety crews

• Trophies to race for

• Boats in working order

• Events worth turning up to — even when the wind doesn’t

You don’t have to love committee meetings, but they’re what keep the sails full and the river busy.
